Speaking on a panel titled "What do Shippers Want? A Conversation About Cargo", BAYEGAN COO @Atilla Eryılmaz shared a shipper’s perspective into the critical role that port operations play in supply chain efficiency: “As a large, international petrochemicals distributor and manufacturer with significant transport and logistics needs, we monitor very carefully our supply chain cost, lead time and operational excellence. Container terminals play a critical role in delivering results across these three pillars of supply chain efficiency.”
Atilla drew attention to the capabilities and capacities of ports and noted the importance of gate in- gate out operations and port connectivity to main highways as particularly important efficiency factors. He also added: “As shippers, we focus on the congestion issue at ports. Ports always need to focus on creating additional capacity in order to mitigate the risks of delays or disruptions.”
During his remarks, Atilla also stressed the importance of systems and data visibility to measure performance and identify any bottlenecks.
